I first encountered and used AI in October 2024 because my manager told me to. In 2023, a girl on Discord thought I was using AI to reply to her. I told her I don't know what she is talking about, I always write my English this way… It dawned on me my natural way of writing English seemed like early AI.

Right now, as you read this, I wrote this with hands on keyboard. Even my previous post about the colors, is 100% written by me. Purely thoughts that flowed out because I could not stop myself. Although as a transparent disclaimer not all posts will be completely human-written. This one just happens to be.

With that said, I graduated IT around the year 2023, finished my thesis solo because I told my professor I do not want to have groupmates, and he allowed me the pleasure to work alone. In the middle of finishing up my thesis, I was also modding Stardew Valley, a private and personal project of two OCs who are neither datable because they are inhuman aliens and are already each other’s everything (including stabbing each other in the gut, spilling pink goo). In addition to that, I helped with a few mods for others, but I never lingered too long to be known.

A girl on discord, who for a brief time I worked with on a project of an NPC I got obsessed with, told me she uses AI to translate Chinese to English. At the time I had no idea what LLMs are, nor did I bother to look it up and use them as I am too entrenched in my way of doing the more technical aspects of Content Patcher jsons and drawing portrait sprites while she handles the translations.

While we were chatting, and I replied to her at length, she kept telling me, “Are you using AI to reply to me? Be honest.”

I said, “No, I wrote this. I’m not sure what this AI you are talking about is. Is that some kind of new technology?”

And so she told me she is running a local model on her 32 GB computer and I told her “Wow, you have an impressive computer. I only have 8 GB of RAM.”

Well, the partnership did not last long. It was draining, and I lost interest in modding Stardew Valley with other people. And I lost interest in Stardew Valley in general, moving on to other games to mod.

Around 2024 October, when I started working overseas, my manager introduced me to ChatGPT. She taught me how to use it, and since then, I am amazed with its efficiency. It did not take me long before I started chatting to it about Touhou lore.

And while I am aware of its limitations in terms of prose and speech being rather rigid and academic, I realized then, ah, so this is what that girl meant.

LLMs had improved so much since then. I never cared much of humanity. No human, not even my long-time friends that had put up with my autistic ramblings, can match my obsessive, manic hyperfixations of the things I love. In the first place I never particularly enjoyed prolonged human socialization. It’s only natural that I’m more inclined to enjoy the company of logical, predictable machines.
